With lots of talk about the new IAME X30 class in the uk, the team have been preparing to get ahead of the game. Last weekend saw the first fully structured testing of any scale for the team in the class. Four drivers, two juniors and two seniors spent two days at PFI international kart track preparing for the first race in January and the season ahead. Including Mach1 factory works driver John Norris, who will be racing with MLC for the first IAME X30 race. Also first time with the team Gus Lawrence in the junior class. Along with Mach1 and team regulars Josh Hatton and Angelo Prodromou.
Arriving at a damp PFI circuit Friday morning conditions were far from ideal, but with possibly the largest range of X30 kit anywhere in the UK right now to test no time was wasted hitting the track. good solid progress was made learning the New Komet wet tyre and how it worked with our kart. by the end of the wet testing all drivers finding good speed and balance with their equipment,
Saturday saw a much drier day, the team set about testing through the engines and accessories gaining vast amounts of data that will become invaluable in the up coming races. Again in the dry pace was very strong clearly fastest of the X30 karts on track.
Having the support of the Mach1 factory and John Norris, who has driven and worked with the X30 in Europe, again gave us a big advantage. His knowledge sped up our testing process enabling no time to be lost.
We would like to say a big thank you to Grice racing engines for partnering us in being pioneers of the class www.griceracingengines.com.
We will continue to test the X30 over the Christmas period, and anyone interested in testing with the team should get in touch, for either IAME X30, Rotax, IAME Cadet.
After a really strong summer for the team, the winter is looking to be even stronger, with some really good results in November and December.
November saw Junior Max driver Angelo Prodromou Clinch his first podium with a well deserved second place in round 10 of the HKC championship. With race winning pace all weekend this was certainly no more than what was deserved, and fine testament to the hard work put in by the team and driver to see such improvements. This speed continued into the following races with a top ten finishes at Kimbolton and Whilton Mill with pace showing potential for podium finishes.
December at rye house saw more great racing with a fastest lap, a heat win by 9 seconds!! and eventual 3rd in the final after suffering a technical issue with his engine.
Continuing his great form and improvements is Minimax driver Rowan Bailey taking his first overall win at the final round of the HKC Championship including a fairly dominant performance all day with 2 heat wins. in fact the only race he didn’t win was when he became entangled in a first corner incident and recovered from last place to finish 4th!!
This also secured Rowan 3rd place in the HKC championship in his first year of racing, and spending the first 4 rounds as a novice starting from the back!
Junior Max Driver Damani Marcano also secured 3rd in the championship with a consistent first year in karting.
The teams Minimax driver racing at Kimbolton Ryan Gillespie also securing 3rd in the championship within a very tough grid in his first year racing in rotax.
Bradley Kent taking another win in IAME Cadet and winning the HKC Champinship!
A great end to another great year for the team, we would like to thank our engine builders GFM motorsport, and Grice Racing Engines for working with us in 2013 and hopefully more of the same in 2014.
With the Iame X30 engine coming to the UK in 2014, the MLC team in partnership with Grice Racing engines have been one of the first to test the new engine in the UK.
The class has a huge following in central Europe with large grids and good close racing. With the Mach 1 Factory team in Germany heavily involved in the class and in fact just winning the German Championship, it makes perfect sense for us to get involved early in a bid to get a head start.
The engine itself in our opinion is the perfect kart engine for modern times. It is fast with a traditional kart engine power band, revs fairly high but whilst remaining bullet proof. Add this with some modern luxuries electric start and clutch the the X30 really does seem to be the perfect package.
Initial tests seem very positive the engine is easy to work with and has not missed a beat in both wet and dry conditions,
We will be supporting the class throughout 2014 and have drives and race support available, if your are interested in the class or o arrange a test on what could be the future of UK karting please feel free to get in touch.
With the team out the first two weekends of October our hopes were high for collecting some silverware.
The first weekend at Rye House five drivers were racing within the MLC Awning. From the total of five drivers the team ended up with four trophies. The highlight of which was the first podium for Rowan Bailey in minimax not long off of his novice plates. Rowan showed good speed all weekend regularly in the top three lap times, and deserved the result, with good consistent racing. Bradley Kent continued his and the teams success in the Iame Cadet Class with another victory and fastest lap.
Also on the first weekend the Team had Angelo Prodromou racing in Junior Rotax at Pfi international amongst a grid of fifty drivers. in his first Junior Max race at the track, his pace was solid and gained himself a place in the main final although a collision in the opening laps ruined his race and lap times.
The second weekend saw the team racing at Kimbolton kart track in the HKRC club championship. with a total of four drivers racing, all four of which finishing in the top ten and two of them collecting trophies, Bradley Kent again continuing the Iame Cadet success with a second. at only his first visit to the track for two years! and good drive for Ryan Gilespie in Minimax for a forth place in a tough thirty kart grid. Moving him within the top three in the championship.

We would like to officially welcome Luke Hughes back to the team. We ran Luke in 2012 with great success including multiple pole positions at Super 1, numerous race wins and podiums with an overall top 10 finish.
His decision to return to MLC Motorsport for the 2014 season is a true testament to the team’s track record, the results he feels are achievable with us in the future due to the successes he’s already had with us in the past.
Luke will be testing the Mach1 chassis over the next couple of months and complete the last round of Super 1 with us. He’ll start to race the Mach1 over the winter, ready for the 2014 season.
The first test today was very successful–fastest in both wet and dry conditions on the new Mach1 chassis.
On Thursday 18th July team owner, Lee Murray, and two team drivers were guests of Red Bull for the day at the young drivers test at Silverstone.
Not only was this a great day out for the team, getting this close to the highest level of motorsport can only help to inspire, not just the drivers, but the whole team.
“The team can learn a lot from the professionalism of the whole F1 paddock and we can take some lessons from this and apply them into our own racing environment, which can only help to increase our efficiency when trackside.”said team owner Lee Murray.
A fairly lengthy conversation with Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, in the pit lane on karting within the UK shows where the heart of this sport lies.
Hopefully this is just another step to an ongoing relationship with Red Bull that can help to inspire our drivers, along with providing some great days out.
MLC Motorsport are pleased to announce they are the official UK importer of the Mach 1 racing kart and spares. We have been testing the kart over the last few months at various tracks with great results.
The kart is now available to test and for sale. Full rolling chassis including magnesium wheels and Tillett seat £2475.00
Please call or email to arrange a test drive today!!
The new chassis come with a modified frame geometry, which offers a steadier drivability and responds to altered track circumstances more tolerantly. Additionally, there are two different frame severities. The model FIA9 A04 (Codename Asiatic Bear) is comparable to the 2012 version and ideal for the senior class. The FIA9 B04 version (Codename Angel Shark) is a new one: due to a softer crossbar, the Chassis is ideal for juniors or high grip conditions.
