Mach1 and Iame X30 the perfect combination in May

May was to be non stop for the Mach1 UK Factory team MLC Motorsport with five races over five weekends. This to include 2 rounds of the Little Green Man National Championship (LGM)

The first weekend saw the team at Pfi Kart circuit for the May club meeting, and the MLC team hit the ground running, with drivers Ollie Varney and Gus Lawrence setting some of the fastest times wet and dry in testing. Business continued on Sunday with a one two in one of the heats, and most of the fastest laps as well. A non finish in a heat meant Varney had some work to do in the final, but charged through from 8th to take the win, Lawrence catching the leading pack when he had to retire with a broken side pod, even though catching the battle for 2nd whilst holding it up with one hand!! Varney also securing the fastest lap by a dominating margin.

Larkhall round of the LGM series was on the third weekend, considering the track is 7 hours from the workshops the team hit the track setting some of the fastest times in Junior and senior X30 on the official practice day. Come race day the changeable weather conditions made things very tricky with showers all day. But the same great pace continued through the heats, the team scored fastest laps in junior x30 and race wins in seniors. The result of which meant a Pole position start for senior driver Josh Hatton. Hatton lead the opening laps before dropping to 2nd and then remaining there for the rest of the race finishing behind Rotax world champion Oliver Hodgson, a great result from the nearly 50 kart field and the most competitive grid in the UK.

The following weekend it was the Juniors time to shine at the Whilton Mill club round. Great pace from the relatively in experienced Davey Shepherd on Saturday testing, left the team with good hopes for the racing the following day. Shepherd having mixed heats including a non finish left him on grid 15 from 34 for the main final. The race that followed was great to watch as the MLC Mach1 driver came through with overtake after overtake to take the Win!! and with the fastest lap along the way. The first of many to come no doubt.

The Final weekend of the month again at Whilton Mill for the LGM tour, had big and strong grids for both junior and senior x30. the test day again saw the MLC drivers both junior and senior posting some of the fastest times. Race day saw mixed fortunes for the drivers, Senior drivers Hatton and Lawrence had good solid heats including a win, and would line up 3rd and 5th for the final. The juniors however were involved in incidents leaving them with much lower grid positions than deserved with 19th 21st and 30th for Davey Shepherd, Samuel Cornwell and Jake Bowman respectively.

The senior final was always going to be a great spectacle with Multiple British champions, world champions, GP winners galore lining up in the top ten. MLC Mach1 UK drivers Lawrence and Hatton made their way to the front and running 1st and 2nd for a fair period. Hatton then got pushed wide and into the battle of the pack, But Lawrence continued to charge on, leading 3/4 of the race only for a technical problem slowing his progress in the later laps, eventually holding on for a well deserved 4th place, from the strong 45 kart grid. Hatton eventually recovering to finish 8th.

Juniors saw Unbelievable speed from the Mach 1 Drivers, with Davey Shepherd coming through to 4th from 21st and Jake Bowman all the way from the back to take 8th place!! with great pace. Cornwell also having the same speed but getting caught in a mid field battle which he eventually cleared to finish mid pack.

May has proven even further that the Mach1 Kart is the perfect choice for the Iame X30 class, taking 16 fastest laps, 2 wins, 6 podiums. for more information or to arrange a test please feel free to get in touch,
